I was at an auction yesterday.
Generally I don't buy many shotguns as my market is a different niche.

But the price stalled at a low price, so I threw my hand up.
With 26" damascus barrels, I suspected they were cut, and so may have other buyers,

Today I checked and surprisingly, both barrels have choke. grin
.730" bores w/ .005"R & .020"L

Second surprise was the ejector hammers in the forend!
I still have the last 1900 I asked about, as I have always wanted a damascus ejector shotgun.
Now I have two.....

The questions:

1) Two serial numbers?
339852 On all major parts w/ 852 on other small parts.
9626 on barrel lug, forend iron & action flat

2) Why are pellet counts on barrel lug are marked out?
"XXed" out on right barrel. "HHed" out on left barrel.

3) Patent date (OCT 30TH 94) is stamped twice on action flat?

4) W.H. and two anchor stamps on bottom of right barrel just ahead of flats.
A cross stamp on each barrel just ahead of the flats.

Yes, yes I know pictures would be so helpful! I don't have a working host any longer, and this is one of the last forums that doesn't include uploading.
I will see what I can do.

Gunsmiths often would XX out choke if they shortened the barrels or opened them up. .005 and .020are very useful chokes, for a lot of shooting, and sounds like you found a nice gun to shoot. Some like ejectors but I find them only marginally useful. My shooting is rarely so hot and heavy I need help getting empties out of the chamber for faster reloading. While I like the 1894's a bit more than the 1900 that just may be my bias for the fore ends on them. Remington's were a well made double and much undervalued in my travels.

Great info, Fox. I'm sure Utah Shotgunner appreciates its value towards his question. Heavy sarcasm.

Sorry John-- I did not mean any sarcasm. perhaps because I am fortunate to own an Osthaus painting, and I admire American artists with Germanic/European ancestry-ie" Carl Runigus, Ogden M. Pleissner and others,, I thought this gentleman might appreciate the fact that Herr Osthaus moved and worked in the upper strata of American wealthy sportsmen, and could, most likely,. owned a AAHE grade Parker- he chose Remington shotguns as his vade mecum of birdguns. After some of the ant-Germanic prejudice abated following the end of WW1, Osthaus was re-instated as Curator of the Toledo (Ohio, not Spain) Museum of Art and held that position until his untimely passing. So, in light of this, our Utah friend might realize the intrinsic value of these fine weapons produced by Remington Arms-- one can only hope!! RWTF

MC the 1894 and 1900 use a different latching system. On is a snap on and the other is a latch system. Both work well, but I like the looks of the latch more. Hence my personal bias.

John,

It's all good. Keeps the thread near the top and includes some history. No worries.

My hunting gun, shown on these pages many many years ago(Mike Petrov identified the maker, Heym, by the s/n) needed Briley chokes to fix the screw up of another prominent choke company.....
I installed the .015" and .005" tubes and have never changed them.

Also an ejector gun, I agree, for my shooting they aren't a necessity, but the mechanism is just nice to admire.
