Various shotguns that were taken into service by the RAF in WW2 such as the single barrel Vickers Vanguard, Steven and Midland Gun Co, were allocated an RAF Stores number. This reference number starts with 9B and then a four digit number.

I have a stores reference number of 9B 1366 but it is only described as a 'Guns shot, 12 bore Double Barrel'. I do not know the make.

I don't suppose anyone has a gun with this marking on it and always wondered what it was? It will be stamped near the hinge. The BSA Regent 'W' prefix guns from the 1950's have a stores reference number of 9B 2592.

Any other makes of shotgun with the 9B prefix of interest, of course.

Alan
