I posted some photos of Dale Edmonds barrel refinish of this gun the other day. Decided to tackle the woodwork myself. What I thought was a crack on the side of the buttstock was actually a scratch. I have 1 coat on the wood so far. Thought you might like to see some of the colt parts. I soaked the wood in acetone overnight and it pulled the old oil out nicely. Soaked all the metal in 10wt oil overnight.

Nice pics. I just picked up my first 1883 at auction yesterday. Nice to see what the innards look like. Not likely I'll have mine apart.
Wood, fit and finish on these old Colts looks great.

I was surprised to see how dense the wood is, much more so than the couple other guns I have messed with (Parkers).

I don't know how devrep feels about it but I felt this shotgun was a snap to disassemble and maintain. I did this years ago on one as the parts were all gummed as they appear to be above. IMO: It is one of the simplest and strongest designs I've ever seen.
