Well a set of Hornady custom dies in .223 that I bought new cost only 55 Euros and I have just done a load session on the 5.6 and they came out looking like new RWS ammo. That Hornady seater is a real beauty.

I ended up 3 weeks ago buying a BRNO ZKK in 5.6x50R in like new condition off an auction site over here with a nice Tasco euro class 3-12x52 scope on it, nobody else had bid on it so the final price including shipping was when converted to US$200. I then did a little more research on the US Bellms site

https://bellmtcs.com/5.6x50rbellm

he suggests using a .357 mag carbide die with a larger hole bored out in the center to let the 5.6x50 case pass through, it will then size just the base diameter down to the same diameter as a .357 case which is what the 5.6x50 needs to be too. Still having fun with this caliber, my neighbour has shot around 10 roe deer with my reloads so far and performance has been perfect.
As I had joined the local jagdhorn playing group last Feb I whatsapped on their homepage asking for fired cases and have been given around 120 freebies so far by non reloading local hunters.

I used 222 Rem magnum dies to load for my 5.6X50R for years. I sold the gun but just recently acquired another. Now I need dies again. S&B makes the ammo and probably has it in stock in the US. I bought 20 boxes 2 years ago.

bavarianbrit,
My 5.6x50R is also a BRNO. The Bellm loading data is excess to the needs for the standard case, what you were doing before is fine. The reason he needed to size the webs is because he overstrained them with excess pressure. If you have the need to size the web anyway, I believe it would be easier to just saw the top of the carbide die off (the carbide portion is usually a "ring" at the bottom of the die and the body is softer) with a power bandsaw. The standard 5.6x50R is an excellent Reh cartridge just as it is.

Hi Mike,
My neighbour tells me he is very happy with the result on reh with the 55gr PPU bullets that I load for him as they have a thicker jacket than the RWS factory fodder.

bavarianbrit,
I've never tried the PPU bullet, nor the RWS factory one myself. I didn't get the Brno until after I came back from Germany. I use common 50 and 55 grain bullets for informal shooting, but I use 60 grain Nosler Partition bullets for hunting Whitetail. I shot one in the chest, coming straight to me. The bullet was found behind the ribs; it had expanded to about .40 caliber and weighed 48 grains. The Partition bullet is similar to the "H- Mantel" bullet. That bullet was the only one I recovered, on a side shot they penetrate and are lost. I don't know if you can find Nosler bullets, but it seems handloading is more popular there now than when I lived there. BTY the 6o grain Nosler is simi-spitzer, so is no longer than a 50 grain spitzer, and it will be accurate with the 5.6-barrel twist rate.
