Looking to get my first SxS. Decided I really wanted one after holding my greatgrandfathers Elsie at my uncle's house a while back...
Any suggestions on a first SxS. I was leaning towards a 20g but 12 would be OK. I'd like to keep it under $1200 for my first one. Been looking at New Marlin Elsie's, CZ Ringnecks, American Arms (Tristar) Derby Classics...I have an AA Silver II that was my first O/U and love it (i got the Zoli made version)
I'd love for my first to be a real sidelock, but just have not found many in my price range...
All advice appreciated....

CD, welcome to the Board. We all hope you enjoy and share the knowledge.
Why not an L.C., Fox or other fine maker used, but in good condition? With a little judicious shopping you can find one in good condition for the price. Get some help from Board members. Ask questions, read. Don't rush it and you will find a treasure!

You should be able to find a used AYA 12 ga for about $1,200.

I'm in total agreement with Mr. Jim. Why not buy an old Fox, Elsie, Parker. Ithaca or even a Lefever? There are many out there for sale and you would be getting the same basic gun as your relatives used.

You should check out the for sale postings on this site. Looks like RMC has some nice guns around your price range. Take your time and go to a local gun show. Maybe you will be able to handle a few of these guns to see which one you prefer.

I'd like to get an LC. I have been to some gun shows and found mostly supplies for the local vigilante...Not decent doubles, although one guy had a nice BSS set in a case, but wanted a decent price that was way too much for me...
I will continue look for an LC or other fine American...my great great grandfathers LC is a Baker Hammer Gun...I am not afraid of taking on a project gun...I just want the right one...I will keep my eyes peeled...

Think Sweep's right; you should talk to Randy about that '47 Smith. Those Gulf Coast bargains appear to have a good deal of frame corrosion; maybe they also have a good photog.
