Hello all.
Can you give me some gunsmith recomendations for some touchy action work on an Austrian Blitz action O/U? I would prefer someone who has in-depth knwoledge of the subtleties on these particular type actions.
I have a 1950s Franz Sodia boxlock O/U with double triggers. Lovely gun BUT apparently it suffers from soft/improper hardened/worn Seers (and possibly cocking rods, etc).
The front trigger (under barrel) fails to cock and when "fixed" it will work for a little while but then fail again. Sometimes it will fail when rear trigger is pulled first and the gun doubles, then will not cock the bottom barrel.
A Double gun smith who is generally very competetant with metalwork on english/american/spanish/etc guns & rifles has tried to fix this and had problems getting it to work properly. According to him the sears are soft and he has had trouble getting them hardened properly and adjusted to work for any length of time.
My funding is modest so it would be appreciated if that is kept in mind. (I would always be willing to trade services) I live in NW NJ so someone within driving distance would be nice but not required.
Thanks for your suggestions. Lee

Abe Chaber of Danbury, CT is your man. Specializes in the Teutonic actions, overhauled the Blitz on my drilling. About 45 min. from the Tappan Zee Bridge or you can take Rte 84 east to CT. About 10 minutes into CT.
My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income. - Errol Flynn

Good one, and not too far away.
