Is Costco basically the french hardware store equivalent for the Manufrance Robust?

Had me going there, I had visions of going to Costco and having to buy guns in wooden crates of 12.

Yesterday at my local Costco they had a nice Cannon gun safe for $699; about half what I paid for mine of a similar size. I don't know what delivery and set-up costs, I can't imagine that was included in the price. Lou M.

If you are thinking about the one that has been on G/B for some time, it is a very plain Robust. Starting price is about twice what a real Robust usually goes for.

Thanks James. Different gun, but similar. The one I was looking at is a few hundred cheaper, and nicer. Apparently Costco must be some kind of variant.

I'm thinking you want to type that as "Costo". Best, Ted

I didn't want to have to show this to everyone, but what the heck, I don't think I'm going to bid on it anyway: http://www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?itemnum=7594238It looks like a nice clean Robust, but I was just curious where the "Costco" comes in. Maybe the lister mis-spelled it?

Definitely a mispell. The real name is Costo. This is basically a Robust which was rebranded as a failed marketing exercise. The Costos were produced from 1924 to 1940. They are identical to the Robusts and also made by the "Manufacture d'armes de St Etienne". The grade # is lower by one. I.e. a #22 Robust is identical to a #21 Costo. They are rare but show up once in a while. They often came courtesy of a GI, ususally through Germany. "Costo" is a brand name based on "costaud" meaning tough, while Robust is a name based on "robuste" meaning... you know what. Hope this helps. WC
