Gentlemens:

In a moment of weakness I became the proud owner of one of them there fancy scatterguns you guys like so much. Don't tell anyone on the rifle boards or I will be tarred and feathered and cast out in disgrace.

Said gun is a Fox AE 16ga. that has been reclaimed and gussied up by Mr. Doug Mann, what with the fancy F grade scallops and all. Real nice work. Mr. Mann is going to put a handle on it once we decide on the wood. Mr. Ken Hurst is going to scratch on it for me. This brings us to the reason for this post.

Mr. Hurst has suggested that I find pictures of engraving that pleases me to give him ideas as to what I want. In addition to sources you can recommend that I look into, howsabout y'all posting some pictures of your favorite engraving for show and tell. I am inclined to small English scroll and interesting borders, but I am open to anything.

Thanks for your help.

Glenn

After seeing Mr. Hurst's work I think I would be inclined to just let him have his way with your project. He is a true artist and gentleman. I talked to Ken about a project that I was going to do but funds have run into a new roof and other necessary stuff that keeps me form my passions.

If you tell Ken what you want it will turn out that way.

Regards, Gordon

Glenn,

I too am working on a Fox Upgrade. I have been collecting pictures of many different engravings. This is a picture of work by Geoffrey Gournet that I like a lot. I really like how he has blended the small English Scroll and large scroll on the bottom. Ken hurst does very nice scroll engraving I am sure that it will look great. Look forward to the pictures when it is done.

Check the new LC Smith book, Smith's high end stuff is seldom seen but can be exceptional.

Glen, I think that the engraving that you are podering should come from your heart. A bespoke gun should be your gun. It's good to see what others have done, but in the end, you must be happy with it. On my custom engraving project I had engraved my favorite duck hunting area. I took photos and as they say, a photo is worth a thousand words. It turned out just like I had envisioned it. My first bird I ever shot was a sage grouse. I had one put on the trigger bow. maybe you have a special hunting spot, or favorite game animal you would like engraved on your gun. It took me about 3 months to put it all together. So don't worry if it takes you a while. Good Luck
