There is a 7 on the short rib and 13 stamped on the tube, but I think thats a part of the proofs.

I was researching different things, so my notes on the guns from this period are general and sketchy. But I can tell you for certain that number 7246 was sourced from Webley and Son in 1887. For more info you would need to contact the archive in Glasgow and request the page, but that's what I can determine from my notes. There was no mention of anything from Wilkes. This was one of Webley's "A&W" guns that you see in the Webley catalogues from the era.
Researching Lee-Speed rifles, + shotguns sold by Army & Navy CSL. Please send PM w/questions.

Not at all unusual, and it doesn't mean you can't shoot 12ga shells. Simply means that the original bore diameter, rather than being the standard 12ga .729", is .719".

Larry, don't you mean the original bore diameter would have been between .719" and .728" for a bore marked 13 ?

Larry, don't you mean the original bore diameter would have been between .719" and .728" for a bore marked 13 ? Actually, you are both wrong. 12 = .729", 13 = .710" with 13/1 @ .719". After 1887 a bore stamped 13 would mean it was between .710" & 718".

No problem; I knew both of you actually knew better, but a little slip is so easy to make.

Thank you 2-Piper. Unlike Larry, I'll blame my misstep on my youth and inexperience.

Larry & Daryl; I really figured Larry just had one of those so-called "Senior Moments" & posted the size for 13/1 rather than 13. 00While you were then correct in pointing out this would be a Range, rather than an exact number, I highly suspected that you just failed to actually think about the actual diameter posted, & just assumed that Larry had posted it right.
I am even older than Larry so fully understand Both concepts. Did want to set the record straight though less someone become confused.
