Can I get some opinions on the value of a Petrik O/U 12 gauge with English stock, solid plain wood, decent checkering, extractors, two palm proofed with 65mm chambers? 30% case color (cyanide?) mostly faded to grey with minimal border scroll engraving. Wood has been cut to 12" with spacers and vented pad pushing it to 13.5". The gun comes with a slip over elastic pad that pushes it over 14".
Thoughts? Are these lightweight?

Geoffrey Gornet is the best authority on these guns. I have a high grade purchased at the Southern a few years ago. Took it directly to him and got a wealth of info. My high grade gun was in the $4000 range.

The cut stock is going to lower the value significantly. We don't see many Petriks on this side of the pond. I had a pretty high grade one--16ga with sideplates and a solid rib, made for Gastinne Renette. Value was around $2,000, but that was 10-15 years ago.

Thank you Al and Larry. This is not the sideplate model...just a simple boxlock(?) type model.

Argo,
I've already perused that line up on Naturabuy to attempt to determine the average weight (which appears to be around 6 lbs based on the ads and their listed poids).
For, $400 would the majority of those familiar with the gun think it's a good buy or a pass?

Mark Larson had one as I recall. You could piss away $400 for a whole lot less in return. I'd jump on it if it goes "bang, bang" with successive trigger pulls and barrels check out. Gil

Thanks Gil...I've already spent half that amount on new duck decoys for this year!

The seller and I agreed on $350 shipped. If the gun is in good working order when I receive it, I will post pictures. Thanks for everyone's input.

Pretty much has to be worth that if it's safe to shoot. Will be interested to hear more. Sometimes we go a very long time without hearing anything about a Petrik. Interesting guns, from which Remington borrowed the sliding breech hood concept when they came out with the Model 32.
