I picked up a neat one at this weekend's Reno Show. I know only that it is pre-1902. The serial number is 8786. Box lock, A&D, double Purdey Underbite, dolls head with bite. Virtually no wear. Very nice wood. Very nice scroll engraving. Nice dimensions. Scroll lettered on under rib "Chambered for 2 3/4" Cartridge". I don't see many this clean this old. I am guessing late 1880's but anyone know for sure?

Sold to W. Sayer on 20 May 1889.
Sayer was an Australian dealer. Many of the guns that went there were chambered for 2 3/4" cartridges.

You know, a simple thank you is not enough. This was excellent information and is a great example of the quality of knowledge and helpfulness as is often seen on this site. Kudos to you, Steve. Do you work for Powell? I have heard it said by some that "Purdey is the Powell of London".
