I have a Merkel 203E and a 303E. Nice fast handling guns, well and strongly made, and usually quite light. Best suited (in my opinion) to light loads as the light weight and 'central' weight concentration can make perceived recoil above average. Triggers pulls often set very heavy on Merkels for some reason. You may wish to consider adjusting these.

You didn't mention Gauge of the gun. If I recall correctly these are boxlocks with sideplates added. They are well made. Does yours have the two piece forearm or the later one piece. Also what's the date code on the barrels?

If I recall correctly these are boxlocks with sideplates added. I think that is correct. Also the 203 (I assume the 202 is similar) bolts by the two top 'Kersten' bolts - and no underbolt. The 303 has an under bolt as well as the Kerstens.

Its a 12 gauge tut. What i wonder is, does the briley mobile choke conversion degrade its value or not?

Hi, nice looking gun, engraving is really well done, and no rabbits! IMO, the tubes won't lower the value of the gun. The gun is not a collectors piece, a quality built gun to be sure, but not rare.
The tubes may even increase the value. There are a lot of hunters who like the idea of tubes, the ability to change chokes can be a big plus for some. All depends on the individual buying the gun.
Still, a very nice gun you have there.
Best,
Greg

Thanks Greg, i guess the tubes will make ot better for me. I hunt different birds and require different chokes so i guess i will pick the gun up tomorrow. Will let you guys know and post some more detailed pics when i buy it.

Hey guys i was wrong about the gun has briley/krieghoof chokes and is a new merkel post 2000. It was made as a mobile choke gun and it has 18.6 bore barrels. It has 2 piece forearm.
