I do not like it. I tried it multiple times on different projects with inconsistent results.

I have had good luck with the American rust blue from rust blue.com

I have both blued and browned barrels with it, and it has been very consistent for me.

I've been using it since the early 80's best I can remember.
Works well for me.
The degreaser part of the formula I just disregard and take all the same precautions and use all the techniques I normally use with any of these Rust Blue or Brown finishes.
Don't get sloppy with any of them, learn their kinks and most any of them will do a great job for you.

Preparation, application and the techniques you use have way more to do with the results than the name on the soln bottle. But everyone will find one that seems to work better than an other with those techniques applied. It's just the way it is. Same with wood finishing.

Everyone that's done this sort of stuff for any length of time has a shelf full of half used bottles and cans of finish and other solutions all meant to provide the very best results.
They do in someone elses hands it seems, but only one or two in yours.
You have to find those one or two on your own by using them.

I have had good luck with it. It is supposed to be more aggressive than others. A muzzleloader I did blackened pretty well in about 3 coats. I agree with Kutter on degreasing. Acetone works well.

Works fine for me, but it is aggressive, so I cut it with water, 1:1
