Hello everyone, i bought a Victor Sarasqueta sidelock model 6E yesterday. The right barrel is marked 18.5 and 18.3 and choke, and left barrel is marked 18.5 17.2 and choke. The choke gauge measures the muzzle chokes for right barrel as 1/4 and left barrel as 3/4. I know 18.3 and 17.2 stand for muzzle chokes( but i am still not sure) So what i am wondering is , 18.3 over 18.5 means 1/4 and 17.2 over 18.5 means 3/4?

Kem:

18.5 is the bore measurement in millimeters. It works out to 0.728 and a fraction inches, or slightly less than -.001 under
nominal 12 gauge bore measurement of 0.729 inches. 18.3 would be .720 and a fraction inches, giving you a .008 choke constriction. 17.2 is roughly 0.677 inches, giving you a choke constriction of .052 inches or seriously extra full.

Congratulations, Kem. Those are nice guns. We don't often see the higher grade Sarasquetas in the United States.

Thank you for the explanation rem, and thank you L Brown i hope i will enjoy it. There is also 18.4 stamped near the loop on both barrels. Why would that be ?

18.4 might have been the bore diameter before the barrels were final finished and polished, but that's just a guess.

I suspect Rem 40X is spot on, the 18.4 was likely marked at provisional proof, the other ones at Definitive proof.
