I have reviewed the below post, but am not sure of the current state of damascus repair in that is there someone (or ideally a variety of someones) who can perform a cosmetic repair to damascus barrels in an area that does not experience any pressure? In this case, the area of concern is a nick at the outermost portion of the barrel at the breech face (visible at the top of the gun in the attached picture). I just find it unsightly and bothersome, but it should have no bearing on safety if left unaltered.

I assume that there are people capable of welding or brazing damascus given that there are a number of steel to damascus sleeving jobs performed. Anyone know who can handle that sort of work and idea of cost?

No pressure?

Only if you never fire the gun.

I would learn to live with that one if it were mine. When you weigh the amount of work/money required and the benefit gained I do not think the repair would be worthwhile. Best of luck with it.

Flintfan, that looks like an excellent recommendation. Thank you.

Steve, you may be right. It is easy to start pouring money into a gun that will never be worth it. Slippery slope.

Superficial pitting can be repaired

After by Brad Bachelder

I'm with Steve and would leave that be. It is unlikely that the repair could be colored to match the Damascus pattern and would be very obvious.

There was a thread on the PGCA forum 1-2 years ago with before and after pics of a damascus barrel muzzle repair which was quite well done I believe by Peter Nagel. I have a before pic but couldn't find the after. Different location and quite different pressures.
