Gents,
Wondering what the thoughts out there are concerning the scarcity of the following combination.
First year Ithaca Lewis, field grade, 20 bore, 30" ejector fluid barrels, 80% plus condition...oh...pistol/splinter checked w original buttplate..

The cause is there are not many left  And there were very few FIRST YEAR, 20 gauge ejector guns made with 30" barrels with that stock configuration. 61610 - 76599 year of 1902 , 14,989 guns of all styles Also, they were TOOLS and used hard Mike p.s. do you have one?? Pictures please

The gun is on its way here. Was advertised as a Flues...I could tell by looking at the frame that it was a crass/lewis or minier...pics were not very good. I asked the seller for the barrel length, and when he said 30", I asked if he was sure it was a 2o? He tested it with a shell in the chamber so I paid his low buy it now price immediately. Knowing my luck there will be something really wrong with the gun! serial #makes it a first year Lewis.

additionally, when I asked for the serial number, the seller said it did not have one, "must be older than when serial #'s were required", I told him how to take the gun down, and where to find the serial 3's.....told me he learned something new today!

Scares is fine, if it is high quality. Otherwise it's just one of a few. Would you consider a 1972 Orange Pinto scarce because I know where there is one or would you rather find the 65 Mustang with less than 100 miles on it? Both are scarce but one is rare and the other is just unusual at best. Not many early Ithaca 20's but unless its high condition or high grade it is just interesting at best.

20 gauge Lewis guns are rather scarce IMO.

Agreed, that is why I used the term scarce, and not the MUCH overused term of "Rare". I have owned a couple of flues and NID 20's over the years, but never encountered one with 30" barrels, which I find as interesting. "In the eye of the beholder" as they say. Regardless, I paid very little for the gun, and am enamored with long tubes on small bore gun!

I seem to think that 1905 was the first year for 20ga guns at Ithaca. As Walt stated, very few Lewis models in 20ga. I have a Minier 20 on a Lewis style frame and it is the only one I have seen.
