Did some target shooting with my western arms 20 gauge this week and every time you open the action the darn auto safety comes on and it's a pain in the azz! Is there a way to disengage the damn thing and how do you do it. On the side it would be a nice time to check/clean up the action too.
I assume that dropping the trigger group out (three screws on the bottom) and/or removing the stock will do the job without any major problems.....right?
*And no I don't want to do the gunsmith route.........just want to clean it and remove the auto safety gizmo not rebuild the darn thing.

You Don't even have to remove the trigger plate, The stock is the thru bolt type, Take out the thru bolt and It will slip off. If it has never been off, it may help to loosen the trigger plate slghtly.. MDC

Then, with a jeweler's saw or Dremel Moto-tool cut the rod that pushes the safety into battery shorter. Very simple. I too hate automatic safeties. Why do you think they don't even put them on target shotguns. Chopperlump

I don't know why a lot more of the gun manufactures didn't use the 3 position safety that L.C. Smith used until about the late '20's. Push safety forward and when you break the gun open, safety returns to safe. Push safety in the rear position, open gun safety stays on.
I'm sure there must be other manufacturs that had the same type of safety.

wb I have a western arms 20ga. I hunt with often, If you plan on using it in the field (assuming you have your gun on safe untill firing) its not that bad of a pain. My shotgun is very light, so its not one I target shoot alot.
