Yes, just a guess, but I would guess the wood is stripped out and the guy decided this kind of repair. Fill the holes in the forearm with wood dowels, drill out the wood to the correct size and attach properly and all should be well. The wood screws are in two lengths. The shorter screw goes to the front.

It is definitely a Folsom gun from what I understand they did not make the 20 ga.untill Folsom took over. This is the only gun in the Folsom era that I know of that collectors will collect other than the Paragon. How long are the chambers? I own one that has 2 9/16th cambers. I am just crazy over the ones I own.

Some years back there was a very high condtion Folsom Batavia Leader 20-gauge kicking around the gun shows in the mid-Atlantic area, and the dealer seemed very firm on $1100. For a collector it did have a lot of condition, but as a using 20-gauge it was very heavy at a shade over seven pounds. My Black Beauty Special Ejector 16-gauge with 30-inch barrels weighs in at 6 pounds 12.1 ounces.

In the late 1920s some of the Folsom magazine ads list a Batavia Leader .410-bore, but to the best of my knowledge, no one has come up with one. For some reason, it seems the case colors on these Folsom era Batavia Leaders seems to stand up quite well.

The chambers are 2 3/4 i believe, i know it shoots 2 3/4 just fine. ran 2 boxs through it Sunday shot 22 of 25 and 19 of 25
It also feels light i find some accurate scales a weigh it.
Some of the old doubles i have seen used a sinide case harding
they hold up better than the bone method

You can shoot 2 3/4 out of it is not safe and it really kicks
see if there is a F in the serial number and check those chambers
