In the legend lives, there are pictures of field grade LC's where it appears the forend is blued not cased. Is this correct? Only see this on post 1913 field grade guns in the book.

I have one that appears to be that way, but I wasn't sure if that was right. If the case hardening was done for the purpose of hardening, wouldn't it make sense that this should be done to the forend because of the stress put on it when the gun is cocked?

I have a lot to learn... please comment.

Jerry. their is a hardened piece the cocking rods rub on.

Jerry, the for-end metal on ejector guns was case hardened. The others were blued.

As Mark stated, the cocking plate is hardened on all grades with and without ejectors. Guns with ejectors have a split cocking plate and are held in with the pin going through the knuckle end.
