I found a very nice hammer double and am wondering about production date. Marked Powell not Powell & Sons. Cartridge gun not M/L.

Serial number and photographs help . Otherwise it may have been produced by Tommy Cooper / Paul Daniels , rather than Peter Powell .

Does it have a serial number on the underside of the barrel?

Yeah, high 8400's. Interesting piece. Most nice quality guns of this age were fine Damascus, but this one is "fluid steel" and in very nice condition. Neat piece. Thank you for the information.

Pete, William Powell & Son guns in the 8450 to 8499 serial number range were sold between 1887 and 1889. Most were sold in 1887, a couple in 1888 and one in 1889. If you want specifics, PM me the complete serial number.
Powell began using steel barrels in 1867.
