What does this mean, "V. Hafner Hofeuchsennacher Cassel"? P.s. Is it unusual when reading markings, muzzle end is in right hand, butt end in left hand only because it would seem easier to read top rib while holding gun in conventional manner with right hand on trigger? G

The word Hofbuchsenmacher means "court rifle maker". That means that V. Hafner was a gunmaker for a royal court. Which court I cannot tell you. Does the gun have any initials with a crown over it inlaid anywhere?

Valentin Hafner

HAFNER (HAeFNER) Valentin, Kassel, Hessen/Germany, born 1847 (father: gunmaker Wilhelm Haefner), died after 1921. Valentin Haefner received his title for making (supplying) guns to the Royal Court of Hessen. The German monarchy was abolished in 1918 after the Great War. Either this gun was made before that or the German gunmakers by royal appointment did not care much about the Weimar republic.

I have one of these guns as well. Father in law brought it back from Germany he has passed on so trying to find out a little about the guns history and value. Will try to attach some photos if I can figure out how.
