A friend inherited a classic 1960's big-bore hunting rifle chambered for the ".450 Easton Magnum." It came with a set of RCBS custom reloading dies, also marked "450 Easton Magnum. I'm pretty sure this is a wildcat based upon a blown-out .375 H&H cartridge. We're planning on shooting and reloading.

Several questions:

1. Are there any published articles and/or cartridge specifications for the "450 Easton Magnum?"

2. Anyone have info on the originator -- Easton Gun Shop?

3. I think this rifle will chamber and fire factory .458 Winchester Magnum ammo, which case it 1/3" shorter. Comments?

4. I have found data on a very similar cartridge named the ".458 Lott Magnum." It is also a .375 H&H case blown out to .458. I'm wondering if the case specification are the same/similar to the ".450 Easton Magnum. Federal has sometimes offered factory ammo for the .458 Lott, at $78 per box of 20.

5. Not seeking maximum velocity, I will handload using published 45-70 data, and .458 Winchester data. Both cases are smaller than the .458 Easton. Not planning on shooting any Elephants or Cape Buffalo (none wild in Missouri).

Any info on this wildcat cartridge would be appreciated.

p.s. I think this a rifle probably never owned by Larry Brown -- but maybe.....
