Gents,

I am really looking forward to my first National Classic. I have been hearing alot of great things about this shoot. Just looking at the vendor / exhibitor list gets me fired up (no pun intended).

Having never been I have one question. I just bought a K-20 .410 that I am really looking forward to shooting. Is there a special course for the smaller subgauges???? I mean you don't shoot the same course as the 12's right???

Also I heard from a friend of a friend that HiDefSpex is going to be one of the vendors at the show? Looking at the list of vendors / exhibitors I don't see them listed...can anyone verify this. Really would like to check out their shooting glasses....they look like they have really got a better mousetrap!

DoubleD,
You've picked the best National Classic to be your first...welcome! Your K-20 will be welcome as well

Although the US Veterans Open is admittedly tuned-up to challenge the competition shooter using a modern target gun, ALL the National Classic courses (Sporting Clays & Five Stand) are for the double, pump and game gun shooters to enjoy and will more closely replicate the speed and distance of game birds. Your new K-20 will be very appropriate...and you'll be competing only against other shooters using the same action type and gauge. Of course if you have a Side-by-Side to match your DoubleD 'handle', please bring it too. We'll have a good supply of cartridges on hand for vintage guns too.

The National Classic Preliminary rounds (50 targets)for Sporting Clays and Five Stand for classic-style and vintage double guns, pumps and O/U's will be held on Friday. The main event Championships (100 targets) can be shot either Sat. or Sun...or BOTH. Re-entry is encouraged with awards for action type and gauge ... so if you have'em, bring'em!

The vendor list is dynamic and new dealers and manufacturers are being added daily. What you heard is TRUE...HiDefSpex will be on hand to show off the latest in tint technology! I assume there will be demo glasses and I am interested in seeing the new 'specs' myself.

By the way. If you enter any 'main event' you're given a ticket invited to the dinner party on club grounds Saturday night. A good chance to meet and greet fellow shooters and vendors too.

Weather forecast is sunny and 70's all weekend...you won't want to miss this one.

Just got back from Northbrook. We shot a sporting clays course and a round of skeet. Very nice venue, pleasant staff and great weather. Kinda wish I had shot a little better, but that's my beef not the clubs. The clays course was set up great: moderate ranges and coming from all directions. We shot mid-morning and there was no lines, no waiting. A good time was had by all.

Me too!

It was a grand time and I met (and shot with) some great folks. Even remembered how to shoot one of them there scatter guns. Had my first close encounter with a two triggered gun. I think I about bent the front trigger trying to shoot the second of the pair on station 1. It was also my first quality time with a 16 bore, a wonderful Fox loaned to me for a round of skeet. (Thanks, Dave!) I had impure thoughts about that gun. I really liked that 16. I'magonna hafta get me one of them!

Back for more tomorrow.

Glenn
