Gentlemen, is DDA suggesting that this old hammer gun ( IF I can get it together and it otherwise is in good condition ) can be shot with appropriately loaded BP shells, even with the receiver probably having been annealed ?

Yes. His point is that a soft receiver is not a safety issue but a wear issue. The barrels hold the real danger and if sound they are safe. The receiver is just what they close against, hold the back of the shell in the barrel.

I paid $150.00 for an old breach loading hammer gun. It was void of any finish on the Damascus barrels and action. So I just browned it like my muzzleloading guns.

Browning or may not be traditional but it sure makes the Damascus pattern stand out.

I use it for black powder skeet and it handles 1 oz PB 5K loads just fine.

Resale value means nothing as my grandkids will fight over it when I am gone. smile
