Gentlemen:

I'm looking for a gunsmith who can expertly rust-blue a double...and I'd like someone working within a few hours of Manhattan.

(I want to personally drop off and pick up my gun, instead of shipping it.)

The short list is down to these names:

Abe Chaber (Connecticut)
Dan Morgan (Vermont)
Turnbull (New York)
Dewey Vicknair (Pennsylvania)

Should be a generalist who does a consistently good rust blue and who can add a pad and fabricate parts, if necessary.

Please post any positive experiences with the names above (or any others you suggest)...and if you've had a bad experience, just send me a PM.

And yes, I'm well aware of Griffin & Howe...but I'm looking for someone who works under their own shingle.

This guy did a lot of work on a friend's high end double including possibly rust bluing. Supposedly top notch. (Kirk Merrington sleeved the barrels)

I've used Abe Chaber for rust bluing as well as about any other double gun repair you can think of. Always first rate.

Dewey can take a block of steel and make anything you want him to make. His Fox upgrades are wonderful. Metal is like putty in his hands.

Second for Abe Chaber, H&H's go to man as well as G&H before they left CT. Will do anything needed.
