One of the Cowboy Action Shooting clubs had a New Years match yesterday. Attendance was a bit light. The temperature never got above 40 and along with a light breeze and overcast, it was a bit uncomfortable.

I chose to shoot my Colt 1878 10 gauge. My loads were made up in antique UMC nickel plated brass hulls. It was a light load of 60 grains of Grafs FG, 9 gauge over powder card, cushion wad, 1 oz of reclaimed shot, 8 gauge top card glued in. Decidedly a light load but nothing more is needed for Cowboy Action Shooting. Recoil was very light when shot in 10+ pound gun.

Union Metallic Cartridge nickel plated hulls.

I wasn't competitive with the big gun and brass hull combination but I had a unique satisfaction of shooting a Colt 1878 10 gauge with antique hulls.
