A gun might well not pass reproof if it's been honed excessively.

The UK Proof houses are reluctant to accept a gun unless it's been submitted by a competent gunsmith, precisely to weed out the obvious wrong 'uns, and thus avoid wasting everyone's time and money.

If it's offered up in an excessively honed condition it wouldn't even pass View, never mind the actual Proofing process.

Myself I'd consider a gun that possibly started life at .719 bore diameter and is now .740 to be excessively honed...
