I believe it is a Belgian-made 12 gauge, probably made for a French shop/gun seller. Cockreil tubes. 65mm chambers. Somebody has removed the checkering, presumably in an ill-fated refinish attempt. Any thing you guys can add to my knowledge is appreciated.

Medium quality Belgian made gun for French retailer.
Belgian proofs seemingly mostly struck off. Begs a question.

I'd closely check barrel fitment.

Not much collector value, good shooters. Plenty around.

FWIW, I id them like ducks for origin.
The first thing that pops out to me.

Inverted pin ends almost always are Belgian in origin.

Out there doing it best I can.

An old Dutreuil thread on Shotgun World
http://shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=429133

and here
http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbt...e6172d7d6ab57c4

It was made 1910 - 1922 (no lettre annale) and does carry smokeless proof.

With the 2 muzzle constriction over bore markings on the right (only?) barrel it may have been reproved after honing

'JC' could be Joseph Cap

PeteMs list does not have a 'NW'

FWIW, I purchased the gun from the guy who started the Shotgun World thread.

Chambers still 2 1/2"? Sometimes they seem to "grow" without the appropriate reproof.

French gunshops, although they had their own quite active industry, often seem to have marketed Belgian-made guns.

Funny how that happens . . .

These have been lengthened. I shoot RST shells in it, though.

End of chamber and forcing cone wall thicknesses are critical.
If the bores are not 18.4 = 0.724 it's been honed some more frown

Henri Dutreuil ŕ Vitry-Le Francois - Arquebusier

I concur on the JC initials but what about NW: Nicolas Warrant, N. Wilmont??? I can't say that such a mechanic existed.

Cheers,

Probably nothing . . . unless the gun lost too much wall thickness as a result of the honing. But even with the lengthened chambers, better to stick with either 2 1/2", or else 2 3/4" hulls reloaded to low pressure.
