I picked up a beautiful old Belgian sidelock with engraving that reminds me of an H&H Royal. The frame and lock plates are a dull and dark gray. Is it OK to brighten it up a little with Flitz polish or Never Dull, or is this a mistake that would ruin the value? Thanks!

Hi RAS...NO...I wouldn't touch it with anything abrasive myself....do you have access to an ultra sonic cleaner?, think thats`what they are called .Take the wood of and clean locks n action in one. That will clean any grime off from the metal & in the engraving , but leave the patina. But wait for more informed info than mine before proceeding with caution... Sounds nice...Got any pics? cheers franc

Totally agree with Franc. Nothing looks worse than polished metal on a vintage gun. Let it be what it is--a relic from the past that has earned a little patina.

I remember Abe Chaber doing the sonic tank job on the locks n action of a rather nice belgian sle I have, which I bought after he checked it out & gave me the thumbs up. Then he gave it the sonic vibe bath...sounds sexy...? It was amazing how much lovely faded colour came up..even the grey/silver looked so really clean, not polished looking well worth a try, imho cheers Franc Any pics ?, I love nice belgian engraving

Trying to upload a couple pictures, but can't figure out the trick. The picture icon wants a URL address???? Can't you just include an attachment?
The FAQ page says to click on the "File Manager" link to add an attachment, but I can't find "File Manager" to save my life.

Yeah, I guess you have to go through Photobucket. I created an account but I keep getting bounced out when I try to upload a pic. What a pain in the a$$, doesn't look promising.
