I looked at a set of 20ga Flues barrels today on line and the outside dimension from one barrel to the other was a full .100 bigger than my action. The owner only had a tape measure.
Does anyone know if the center to center firing pin dimension on 20ga Flues guns were the same throughout production? I know they beefed up the actions at some point but don't know if the firing pin dimension changed.
Looked like a lot of material to remove to fit them to my action.
TIA Bill

I have had zero luck fitting orphan Flues barrels to guns. I tired four times I think to match up extra barrels to guns I had at the time and nothing ever fit easily or at all for that matter. Each could have been done given time and lots of metal removal I am sure. I'd only try it again if I could get the barrels on approval and return them if there were a no go.
In fact I have a 20 Flues that I'd like to add a set of 28 or even a set of 30" barrels to but nothing seems to come my way. Right now it has 30" 4/4 barrels which have been opened up slightly to M/IM and Full which is fine for some things I want to do but much too tight for others. I am just using different loads to alter patterns as best as I can for now. Well it is in pieces right now as I am working like a house elf trying to get a new stock on it for dove season. So chokes are the least of my problems but I should be fine as long as the AC last in the shop. Without that I am not going to get it done until the temps drop 20-30 degrees.

Mine is 2.042 Question for you, are you SURE the barrels you looked at are not really 16 gauge barrels??

Skeettx, I thought the same thing, maybe a 16ga.. My 28" is 2.005 and the 30" is 2.045 like yours. I'll check with the seller about 16ga. I just went thru that 20ga/16ga thing with the Lefever E grade recently. KY, My luck has ran about the same! Thanks, Bill

There could be considerable difference, as Ithaca kept beefing up their smallbore Flues as time went on. In the 1912 through at least 1915 Ithaca catalogues they give their smallbore weights as --
16-ga 5 3/4 to 6 1/4 20-ga 5 1/4 to 5 3/4 28-ga 4 3/4 to 5 1/4
In the July 1919, Ithaca catalogue --
16-ga 5 lbs. 14 ozs. to 6 1/2 20-ga 5 1/2 to 6 28-ga 5 to 5 1/2
In the December 1, 1919, Ithaca catalogue --
16-ga 6 to 6 3/4 20-ga 5 3/4 to 6 28-ga 5 1/4 to 5 3/4
In the 1925 Ithaca catalogue --
16-ga 6 1/4 to 6 3/4 20-ga 6 to 6 1/2 28-ga 5 3/4 to 6 1/4

Thanks, Bill

Thanks John. I remember that thread now that you posted it.
The barrels are definitely 16ga. There was a good pic of the breach end. I blew it up and did the ratios to my barrels.
