The remingtons are a very under-appreciated double. The 1894s are very nice guns, especially in the higher grades. And for a utility gun, the 1900 is as good as they come. A lot out there are in rough shape though.

Marcellus Hartley Dodge saw where the money was to be made with his John M. Browning designed autoloading shotgun (introduced in 1905) and his John D. Pedersen designed repeating shotgun (introduced in 1908), and exited the double gun market in early 1910. Remington Arms Co.'s production of 134200 Model 1889 hammer doubles, 41194 A- to EEO-Grade hammerless doubles and 98508 K- to KED-Grade hammerless doubles over barely sixteen years, is about 30000 more doubles then the Brothers P produced from 1866 to 1945. Still, probably only a fraction of what flowed out of H & D Folsom Arms Co.'s factory in Norwich, Conn. (aka Crescent Fire Arms Co.). Fortunately, even though they left the market 106 years ago, there are still some pretty nice Remington Hammerless Doubles out there for us to enjoy, like this one from the upcoming Julia's auction -- http://jamesdjulia.com/highlights/?Auct=394&Cons=50939a1 The Remington Hammerless Doubles gave a pretty good accounting back in the day in the hands of the great Remington pro William Heer --

E.D. Fulford won the 1898 GAH at Live Birds with a Remington Hammerless. R.O. Heikes used a Remington Hammerless 1899-1901, with which he won The Interstate Associations First Annual GAH at Targets June 1900. He used a Parker at the 1901 Anglo-American Match. The 1904 Touring UMC Squad, included T. A. Marshall, Captain; R. O. Heikes, C. W. Budd, J. L. Head. T. E Hubby, W. H. Heer, J. T. Anthony, F. C. Riehl and E. D. Fulford; assisted by Frank Butler, shot in 65 Southern Cities. The first five broke the five-man squad world's record by a score of 488X500 at Palestine, Texas.

Yeah, I am really surprised Remington doubles dont command higher prices, there are those who say the 1900 is a low quality gun but I have to disagree, that might be the stigma they have, but shoulder one, it balances amazingly even with 30 inch barrels. Where else can you find a solid American made double with ejectors for less than 500.00. These guns are over 100 yrs old and still cranking the loads. I absolutely love mine, fits and balances like a utility grade english double. Very solid gun!

I like Remington's a lot but must say most I see are well worn and beat to hell. Those in nice condition do command decent prices in the grades above B. Funny thing is that if they carried the Browning or Winchester name on their rib and side their prices would be vastly higher. This is a case of people not buying the gun because the name does not impress them and not looking at the quality of the gun. Nothing else explains Crescents bringing as much as 1900 in worse condition than the Remington.
