just got a Austrian 16 Bore sidelock sxs and the crossbolt pin is STAYING ALL THE WAY OUT .Is this a gunsmith's repair? I oiled it thinking maybe gunked up.Next was going to knock with something or push with channel locks. Any advice before I try this

I think it is a hard linkage to the top lever. If the top lever is returning to normal closed position then I imagine part of the linkage is broken. DONT try to force it! Send to a qualified gunsmith.

My cross bolted Belgian guild 16 gauge is a "hard linkage", as Joe deftly put it. The only way it could not move when the top lever moves is if the extension on the spindle, or the receptor on the cross bolt, were broken. I cannot imagine that it could be worn so terribly much that it came out of it, but maybe it's possible on some guns.

p.s. If you take it apart yourself, rollbac, watch carefully for a small broken piece. There may be a possibility that it could be micro welded back in place.

Depends on the construction but sounds like a broken linkage of some kind .Only way to find out is to strip it down .

gunter pfrommer, located outside of rocky mount, va. comes highly recommended.

Thanks..can anyone relate to wanting to put a lot of money into a gun like bluing barrels,changing chokes,removing cheek swell(i'm left handed) won't hurt cast.refinishing wood,removing swivels,etc..Rather than just buying gun that has all that done.There seems to be something about wanting to fix up a gun.I have very nice RBL with the best to offer.but older guns something about them

LOL I specifically look for guns that are selling at somewhat of a discount because of "cosmetic" issues. The barrel bores and walls need to be in good shape, mechanically it needs to work and I like the screws not to be buggered, but after that, I'm fine because I'm going to re-do stuff anyway. Of about 15 fluid steel barreled SxS, only 2 came to me with barrels I haven't felt compelled to re-blacken. The other 4 are Damascus barreled and surprisingly, the finish on the barrels is the best thing about those 4 guns. Mind you, I've stopped removing sling swivels.
