A few months ago I picked up an old Riverside brand double 12 gauge, model 215. It had no stock, no fore-end metal, and was missing one hammer. I repaired it to a functioning state, and took pictures as I did so. This was the very fist gun stock I have built, so bear with me, it's far from perfect, but for the interested few here you are......

While I don't have any real before and after photos of it, the first thing I did was use 320 grit sandpaper on the barrels, and buff the receiver. Then I cold blued the barrels, and made a new left hammer, it isn't the final hammer, I just made it for functionality purposes, and it works well. After all that I found a long bolt that fit the back of the receiver, a 1/4 coarse. From there I cut up some large slabs of birch, and hand planed them flat on one side. After some layout work I inlet them for the bolt, and glued them together. From there I inlet the receiver with chisels, a chainsaw file, and some sandpaper.... After in-letting it properly, and tightening the receiver to the stock blank, I laid out the bolt path through the stock to make sure my pattern didn't intersect it. Then laid out the stock pattern. I decided to go with an English straight stock, partially because I hear that it makes it easier to transition between the triggers, but mostly because I figured it would be easier than pistol grip to make, and because I haven't got a gun with a straight stock. I modeled it after my the stock on my father's Baikal single shot, that particular gun fits me very well, the only changes I made were eliminating the pistol grip, adjusting the length of pull, and adding 1/8" of cast off. Because I don't have a band saw I cut out the stock in steps...literally, with a chisel and saw I step cut the outline of the stock out.
