I came into posession of a german 16ga sxs cartrige shotgun the other day that has straight rifleing in both barrels. And the point of the straight rifleing in a breech loader would be??????????

Cody, look at the last 9 inches real careful. I've had two guns with what appeared to be straight rifling but the last 9 inches did a real gradual twist. This was suppsed to kep the lead bullet from stripping.

A double bbl'd gun made to shoot lead 'ball' ammunition, most likely built to be used in driven or chase shooting with dogs.
Using a tight fitting patch would also be a way to dertermine or 'feel' the gain in the rifling toward the muzzle.

It's my understanding that this form of full-length straight rifling was an early attempt at shotshell pattern control; something about preventing random rotation of the shot and wad column as it traveled down the barrel supposedly resulting in vastly improved pellet counts at distance. Another great idea that didn't pan out...

Briley will do it to your sub gauge tubes. They claim it tightens the pattern by a point. Briley can also sell major bridges in NYC. bill
