Hi all I have a H Grade that has L.E.P in an oval stamped on the barrel flats anyone know their origin?
this gun is built real heavy duty barrels weigh 4Ib (twist steel) gun weighs just on 8Ib
Its used as my duck gun here a Damascus or twist steel gun can still be used with lead shot low pressure loads work a treat!!!!
all these posts recently regarding barrel makers for American guns has sparked an interest about my Lefever any ideas?

If you post pictures of all the marks some one may be able to identify the maker

Are you certain it is LEP and not LLP?

If on the flats it is likely to be the importer/dealer.

I would suggest a search of c. 1900 Australian Ironmongers, Gun Retailers and General Importers. I did a Google search for Ironmongers, and found none that fit L.E.P.

Mongers of Iron- Que interesant!! Si vous plait, mon ami- Ici est-- L.E.P. Laboratories Electronique et de Physique -Reims, France- In WW1, when the great French Bi-plane Le Spad, was equipped with a propeller synchronizing mechanism (copying the German Fokker and Pfaltz) the firm of L.E.P. was the principal in this step forward in effective combat in the skies--Bon Chance!! I have never seen a Lefever with any such markings on the flats, so I agree that it is probably the stamp of a local distributor. Here's another H grade, a 20 ga. gun with fluid steel barrels that has a diamond shaped stamp near the serial number which I have never seen either.

The diamond MAY have something to do with Samuel Buckley & Co.

Another Lefever
