I now see it experienced proof in June of 1903. Any idea of the initials?

It appears Scherell was primarily a double shotgun maker. Could this possibly be a custom for a special client? I have found such scant info on drillings by him it has become a puzzle.

I thought it to be a brace of SSs overstruck w/ a tail diagonally which notes tube effort by Str. Schilling. I have serious reservations that Scherrell contributed any effort less accepting the funds from the client as the adornment/embellishment( Altdeutscher Laubgravur / Wetzlaub) if I have my terms correct) was by a Z-M mechanic.

So it could well be a contract piece? That would make sense for the lack of info on it and probably have not a rarity value to baby it. If that's the case I think I'll spring for a couple boxes of rifle shells, the dies to reload them and give it some range time. It would be a hoot to take it in the woods in Florida for a hog, quail, dove hunt on the same day with only one gun. Then take it to our cabin in North Carolina and go on a deer, turkey, grouse hunt.
Having it as a shooter/hunter would be really nice.

In fact, one is better off/more correct/proper to say that all pieces that wear an address(inland Germany) other than Suhl/Zella-Mehlis are contract pieces. And in fact some of the Suhl/Z-M pieces are also contract pieces.

So it's value would be going rate for a 113 year old shooter drilling. looks like around 2k US give or take a couple hundred wouldn't be unreasonable since there is nothing really special about it but it does fire and the shotgun bores are fair but can easily be polished out. The rifle bore is in great shape.
