Adam, You really "scored" with that one. I special-ordered a 28 ga. Estate model directly from Marty in California in April. Mine has custom dimensions [16" LOP], grade 4 wood [got to pick from several blanks] and oil finish. The configuration is 30", DT, Straight/Splinter. The intended use is "tall" doves and pheasants. They recently told me the gun would be finished in late August and delivered about a month after that. After seeing your great little 410 [particularly the wood] I will be eager to see what I end up with. They may not be Purdeys....but they seem to be neat little "working guns". Hope you enjoy yours.

Long tang with simple scroll. The fit is very good. Another thing that impressed me was the quality of the machining. The quality surpasses any other sxs is the price range and even those costing thousands more. The barrels are very well put together. I am guessing they are chopper lump. They are well struck and I love the love the tall flat rib. Chokes are fixed. I wasn't expecting it, but the gun came in a nice little soft breakdown case... and even with a cute little pair of snap caps. Now... time to hit the range for a field test! Adam

Very nice specimen! I have an Estate model in 16 gauge and I'm very pleased with it. The icing on the cake was a 25 straight at the skeet range the other night. I intend to use the hell out of it in the field.

Awesome little gun, Adam, but that is some dang serious wall thickness at the muzzles. Looks like a double rifle. Is it overly weight forward? JR

That is a pretty gun, Adam. I think the barrels are dove-tailed and not chopper lump. If they were choppers you would see a visible vertical line close to the center of both lumps. For this gun, if you look on each side of the barrel flats just adjacent to the lumps, you can see a vertical line on both sides, indicating they are dove-tailed.
Socialism is almost the worst.

Bobby,
The Dickinson website says the Estate model will weigh 5.5# in .410, but there are four different barrel lengths offered, so who knows if that is for the 24", the 30" or somewhere in between?
Adam, what are your barrels choked? He said the one that is coming for me is mod. and mod. Looks to be plenty of metal in yours if you wanted to have it choke tubed, but only measuring will tell for sure.

I suppose the barrel thickness is attributable to them being on a 28 gauge action--keeps the firing pins centered without having to modify the action. The 28 gauge model is probably lighter, barrels of equal length, because of the thickness of the .410 barrels. They do look plenty thick enough for thin walled chokes or even standard thickness.

Weight is 5lbs 8.2oz according to my postal scale. Light but not too light. I like the handling of this gun... not overly barrel heavy but enough weight forward that its very shootable. Buzz, I think your right on the barrels. Stan, Cabelas advertised it as improved/modified but its actually mod/mod.... worked well on skeet today. Should be a good all-around. I can't wait to give it a try on quail and dove.
