looks like it may have been an NRA Sporter

I learn something every day, and a lot of times it's that what I learned the day before was wrong

1270388 is an NRA Sporter listed in SRS. I doubt the buttplate is plastic, and it looks like the only thing done to it is a Lyman 103 (not a 1A) rear sight has been added.

I think the buyer got a good deal!

25% internet premium seems pretty steep, but I agree. Even with the premium, the price is well under the going rate for an NRA sporter. The only recently sold Lyman 103 sight I could find went for over $300.

I think people are missing something about this, it isn't
your typical NRA sporter.

I noticed that it either has no stock screws or they are very indistinct. I assumed the latter. It has no finger grooves, but I don't believe mine does, either. The photo is pretty indistinct in general. Even magnified it is hard to make out details.

OK I'll bite.....looks like pretty standard NRA Sporter configuration with the exception of the bolt peep. As pointed out, the photos don't lend too much info.

OK, what I think makes it interesting, is that it looks like
it never had a Lyman 48 on it. From what I've been told
is that you could order them without a 48 and with a bolt peep. I never knew that until asked a friend about this rifle.
I wonder what percentage were made in this configuration.

Now I am feeling like a real dumb xxx. I was first loser on the bid, deciding that it had reached a point where after collecting the proper pieces to "correct" it, I was in the realm of an already correct piece. One had just gone for $1700 on GB IIRC. I knew from Brophy, that it was at the end of a group of sporters so should be legit. The "plastic" buttplate threw me and I had even bid on a NOS one on eBay in the event I did get this. I figured I might have a need for it sooner or later anyway. Guess I better up my game and my knowledge base, although I would rather do the latter by losing a few than buying some real piece of junk.

Hopefully this doesn't disappear into a dark hole and we learn more about it. I know I get more knowledgeable every time there is an auction and something like this gets discussed here. Now if I would only get smarter at the same time life would be great. LOL.

I didn't come away empty handed, picking up this heavily modified Winchester 95 for a shooter. It isn't a collectible so I will not feel bad about using it. As a southpaw and cartridge junky, it gives me another big bore for slinging cast bullets down range and a new (to me) cartridge to play with. Looks like a repo Winchester Red pad would fit where the spacer is and make it aesthetically more pleasing, while also more enjoyable.

I'm hoping another member here bidding won it. If not, imagine how one would feel after "correcting it" by installing a 48 and running across this thread? Had I not been pecuniarily challenged I would have gone for it.
