Speculating here: might the long chambers and UAE permit indicate hunting bustards?

Very interesting! So how did your friend come to be in possession of both the gun and personal papers of a previous owner? Relative? I always like to find out what I can of the people who owned any gun I come by. It sets a tone.

The gun was actually at a garage sale. It belonged to the grandfather. My understanding second hand was that the family said the grandfather hunted with it possibly in turkey. I am hoping to find someone that can interpret the paper work so I can learn more about the person that shot it. As of today I now own the gun. Metal is very nice, but wood sure took a licking.
I am hoping someone has an old catalog or personal knowledge on the A Forgeron shotguns.
This gun also has an articulating front trigger. Can anyone tell Me anything about the locks? Not sure how to count the number of pins.

Thought I would try one more time to see if anyone can share anymore information on A Forgeron, or this gun. Not much on the Internet. Does anyone know if Double Gun Journal ever had an article on A Forgeron guns?

I can't find any references to Forgeron in either of the DGJ Index and Readers, which cover the issues through 2005.

The name Forgeron itself is interesting. It means blacksmith in French. And there's even an old French proverb: "C'est en forgeant qu'on devient forgeron." Pretty much the same meaning as practice makes perfect. You become a smith by smithing.

Ghost, the locks appear to be the Belgian interpretation of nine pin H&H royals. Good sound locks that are very widely used.

Thanks guys. I hope to get it out and shoot it this coming week. I'm thinking it was used for waterfowl. Barrels are about 29" and with chambers at 3" and choked full and extra full weighing over 7 lbs. I wish my friend would have asked more questions when he bought the gun at the yard sale. So much history first 91 years in this case is gone when guns change hands.

Anoher common European target of guns barreled like this one was hares, which are much larger and tastier than our skinny 'ol jackrabbits. But I'm betting that this gun was made for less humble prey, as suggested above.

Shot the Forgeron today and what a great gun operating firearm. Ejectors are strong and well timed, and locks up smooth and tight. Patterns very tight I'm now convinced it was used for waterfowl. I'm sure with fiber wads it will shoot a little more open. Will try some older ammunition later this week. Also trying to find someone local to interpret the hunting license and gun carry permit.
