Hello,

I have a clean looking 12 ga. V.B. Uberto 1 coming my way, and am wondering if any of you folks would offer your opinion of this SXS. Also, I could use some assistance in determining the year of make. I'm told it's from the late 60's/early 70's.

That was helpful. According to the chart from there, the date code on the barrel flats of my gun is XIII, which for Italy correlates to 1957 manf. I was told it was purchased new in the late 60's/early 70's. Now I'm thinking if that's true, maybe this piece was bought second hand. Makes no difference to me other than determining it's history if I can.

I wonder if there is also a serial number relationship to the date of manufacture, or date of assembly? I've heard that some companies have built their guns from parts made years earlier and this can be determined by comparing records for date codes, vs serial number.

I had several of these in different guages in the 1980s, bought when a major distributor went out of business. They were rather plain, solid boxlock doubles, well made and reliable.

The only negatives I would mention is that the 12s are a bit heavy for guage, at least for the kind of upland hunting many of us do that is more hike than shoot. But fine for waterfowl, crows, turkey. And the wood tends to be very plain.

Usin' guns, not lookin' guns.
