What are barrel spacers made of in old American double barrels? Specifically, the Remington 1900. I've been told by gunsmiths that they have found a number of different things separating the barrels between the ribs, including wood spacers. Thanks

Folded strips of steel is the only thing I have ever encountered.

strips of steel are what I have found between most of the barrels.
The one different one I found was a LC Smith maker of baker gun,
it had brass rods for spacers.

Folded tin plate , copper and iron . Allsorts have been used . Some London guns have used filed and shaped copper spacers but the majority I see , and I do do a lot of strip and relays ,are of folded tinplate .Big advantage is that its easy to cut needs no tinning and can be simply increased in size to suit .

On Alex Martin ribless guns, where the spacers are visible, they are beautifully filed and shaped steel pieces.
