Do you have a "First Born Child" available? I'm eagerly awaiting the replies. Regards Ken
I prefer wood to plastic, leather to nylon, waxed cotton to Gore-Tex, and split bamboo to graphite.

Why not contact those who do the work and ask them instead of asking members here to speculate?

Fore end too or just the stock? For a good quality job a bare minimum of 3500$ for just the stock. I got some quotes last year for a boxloxk that was damaged in shipping and the insurance company wanted another stocker to do the work. All in with pad, checkering etc the lower quote was for almost 5K and the higher one over 6K. Both these guys are at the very top of their trade but that gives you an idea. Good work will set you back quite a bit.

Am I correct in assuming that restocking a back-action lock might cost a bit more because of the extra inletting required for the mainspring, as compared to a bar action?
In any event, if this inquiry is a real-life situation, you may also want to consider replacing the butt as an alternative. Not the right choice for every gun, but in the case of a sidelock, it would be 10-20% the cost of a full restocking job. I had a replacement done on sidelock where the cost of restocking would have been nearly what I paid for the gun - the butt replacement is undetectable and has made the gun very shootable for me.
Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

Crescents are back action. Who made yours? Someone might already have a pattern for it. Much less work than carving from whole cloth, and time is money.
Out there doing it best I can.

This gun is broken at the wrist.Looks to me to have had something heavy because it is across the grain but I am no expert. Someone on this site gave me the number of Macombson Stock <not sure of spelling> and he told me $800 plus forend and wood if I had the old stock. I'm not sure if he was familiar with what I meant by a back action sidelock and the inletting but he sounded like he did. Most of the guys I know or have used charge $2000 to $3000 for a box lock plus wood plus first born. I think I'll keep looking. Monty

Monty You would be surprised at what kind of a repair can be done to a gun completely broken at/through the wrist. Unfortunately I know.
