Another neat video on plantation quail hunting in the Red Hills of South Georgia and North Florida. Great footage (some historical) of the traditional hunt... great coveys rises too. I think a 20ga Superposed in one of the shots... no SXSs?

Enjoy!

Over 20 years ago I went quail hunting down at Calloway Gardens before the total yuppization of the place. It was expensive, but they would put the birds out however you wanted them, and the birds FLEW, and the dog work was great. The afternoon we got there we shot some skeet for warm up. Everyone was oohing and aaahing over some O/Us, and even I will admit one little Beretta was kinda nice. No one had any interest in my SxS. John, they guy who ran the place - forget his last name at the moment - probably had seen a large number nice guns of all ilks. He spotted my Winchester 23 in 28 gauge sitting in the big old rack they had made from an old cable spool. He asked whose gun that was, and could he look at it. I said sure, and he picked it up, looked it over, and swung it about.
"Boys", he said, "now that's a quail gun." Made my day, and suddenly everyone was interested. Infused with all the adrenaline brought about by praise for a SxS by someone other than me, I shot lights out the whole trip.

I live about an hour from Thomasville Ga, and the plantations between here and there are truly gorgeous.

There is some great quail hunting throughout the region, and I'm hoping to take my wife on her first hunt this fall.

A few days on a traditional quail plantation is on my bucket list.
