Came across this Anschutz marked SxS 20 ga recently. About 28" bbls both I/C, gold cocking indicators, under lever, pivot pin is a screw through a lump on the barrels, looks to be about mid 1920's probably not made by anschutz, will have to dis assemble to see if there are any other markings. any body recognize this type?

And I have an Anschutz 410 Over-Under made by Miroku.
What fun to trace these back to their original makers.

A very similar gun is illustrated in an old reprint of the ALFA (Adolf Frank Export Gesellschaft) 1911 catalog. It is listed as a self-cocking double hammerless gun ...."German hand-make from Suhl factories, cheap but sound ..." Their description is "Roux lock, walnut stock, pistol grip, cheek, matted extension rib, fine steel barrels, indicators, case hardened mounting, automatic safety on neck of butt". They cost 158 marks back then, with a higher grade having fine flower engraving with hunting scenes, horn cap on grip, etc, etc for 170 Marks ( Back then I think there were about 4 Marks per US $)

Good start. I looked up Roux action and it seems to refer in part to the under lever locking mechanism. I found a Kessler with a similar shape, but in a 16 ga hammer gun. I will look for a copy of that catalog.

See a lot of Roux underlevers on pre-WWI drillings, often hammer drillings.
I think the Roux design was phased out by the early 20s, but the German gun experts here can expound further.

Surprised to see all the tool marks along the rib and to hear it has Suhl proofs when it is so blatantly marked Zella-Mehlis.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I havent taken photos of the marks yet, I may be wrong and there is another more knowledgable interpretation of the marks. But if that surprises you think of some of those "London Best Guns" cranked out by a guy named Fred in Birmingham
