After several months of searching, I just bought a SIG 20 ga. o/u made by Rizzini. I'd surfed all the websites I could find looking for a straight stocked 20 ga., preferably tubed, weighing l/t 6#......my idea of a perfect grouse gun for an old man. I must have looked at a hundred guns with these specs but almost all were beyond my budget. The SIG was south of $1600 delivered, comparable Rizzini's were north of $2k. I buy guns to shoot with little regard for residual value. Is it common for "branded guns" such as a SIG/Rizzini to have less value than the unbranded version?

They do when they are discontinued and the manufacturer moves to a new importer. You can get some real value there, the SIGS are a good value.

From what I have seen ,usually a branded gun has a bit less value but I don't know if that's true in every case. I think value will be effected by what quality level, specs and price point the branded gun was made too compared to an unbranded gun.

I have a couple of the early Sig/Rizzinis and they were/are a great value in comparison to B.Rizzini, Beretta, and Guerini. As long as you buy the gun rather than the name. My SA5 12ga/28" has a set of BRiz 30" sporting barrels waiting for final fitting.

Some can be great buys. IMO, one of the best buys around is the Verona. I bought a 692 LX Gold 28/.410 combo, both sets of 30" barrels having forends, last year. I was astounded at the Beretta like quality. It was built by Isidoro Rizzini (F.A.I.R.), and mine was imported by ECC, Boulder City, NV. There are a lot of these guns around in differing model number designations, barrel lengths, gauges, etc. A gun exactly like mine, little used, can be bought for $1500-$1600, if you're patient. This may well be the best value I ever got on a shotgun. Only drawback, for me, is they all seem to be stocked very high, and shoot high. Bending will cure that, if need be.
