The post about Blackbern (757) brought to mind a question I had about removing the cheekpiece from European stocks.

If you would rasp the cheekpiece off would you be left with a ridiculous amount of cast? It stands to reason that you would, but I wonder if the top (spine) of the stock really isn't much different with or without the cheekpiece?

How has this worked out for those of you who have tried this?

Thanks,
CHAZ

Done a bunch of them and the only difference I found is they are easier to sell. Kind of a shame I think they are functional and increase the contact area on the stock and spread out felt recoil.

Good points, all. I think you're absolutely right about the functionality and recoil attenuation. But just try being a left-hand shooter and finding one set up for a lefty or, worse, being a left-hand shooter and using one set up for a righty. I'm willing to bet the RH outnumber the LH by 10:1 or more.

Some stocks can have the cheek pieces removed and some cannot. Or at least not reasonably. Each stock is different and has to be approached with caution to consider both dimensions and appearance.
