Is our "phone" number a land line or cell phone? If land line use a reverse look up directory to see if it tracts back to your seller address. As to location I understand your concern but see it from the sellers viewpoint guns scare people and seeing them in a public place might just get a swat team called out. I look at a safe neutral location like a local gun club. At least there if a gun was seen it would not raise all types of alarms. Clubs often have many people around so you should be safe there.

I have driven several hours on buying hunts and wild goose chases. You never know which it will be until you arrive. One tip about money is don't take any large sums in cash. Banks local to the buyer have vaults full of the stuff and you can get cash advances against your credit cards to complete your purchases. If your bank has a branch there you can just walk in and have them make out a cashiers check for the sale. Just don't be the dope who brings several grand in cash with him to a remote location to meet a seller you have met only over then internet. Too many bad things could happen.

I like to do face to face transactions when possible. If someone
asked me to fax a copy of my drivers license or some other type of ID with personal information. I would drop all communication with them and be alert for identity theft. that is PHISHING or mining for PII.

Did you ask for fingerprints so you could run those, too?

You can never be too careful.

Sounds like they are are suspicious of you, as you are of them.

Often Armslist sellers are people who typically don't sell many guns. It's probably the easiest site to use for the one-time or occasional seller. I've bought several off it, and they were all from just "regular guys", usually ones who happened onto an old gun they were just trying to turn. They really weren't interested in first learning about them, and just wanted some quick cash. Consequently, the deals were very good. Everyone is concerned about scams on both ends, but keep this in mind so in the future you don't miss a good deal. Often they are Ebay sellers, who have to use Armslist. They try Armslist first, before parting the gun out on Ebay.

I prefer wood to plastic, leather to nylon, waxed cotton to Gore-Tex, and split bamboo to graphite.
