Came across this little jewel, (appears to be), a few days ago and being the weak kneed, spineless, no will power creature I am I bought it. Don't know if I paid too much and don't really care. If it is in as good condition as described I'm happy. Any info out there on Joh. Outscher? Jones underlever sourced in Birmingham maybe?

nice Rifle from Ferlach. The descendants of
Johann Outschar are still in the business:

Thank you, gentlemen!

Gunwolf, that was interesting, thanks for passing it on.

I will Mike! After that, you know the routine...cases, dies, (don't think I have any that will work), hopefully I already have the bullet molds then make the old gal shoot, ideally with fine accuracy! I'm looking forward to using the tang sight on that rifle. In your experience are they usually close to the open sights?

A very nice Ferlach rifle! Not nearly as common as Ferlach "cape" guns in same caliber.
BTW Outschar is an old Slovenian name (Ovcar) meaning Sheepman.

With kind regards,
Jani

Vic,
I loaded a lot of 9.3x72R,with 9.3x74R dies, before finding 9.3x72R.I just removed the expander plug, deprimed by hand, and made an expander/beller for the correct diameter, for use with a hammer.Seated bullets with 9.3x74R seater, didn't reach the crimping shoulder, but I don't crimp these cast bullets anyway. This amounts to a "neck sizing die set".

Thank you jani...my eyes perked up nicely the first time I saw it!

Mike, I wondered about my 9.3 X 74R dies but assumed the die would be too long for the 72R case to reach and be neck sized enough. Evidently such is not the case? 'Course, I guess it's only 2mm that might not get sized. Or is it that the neck is long on the X74R? Obviously I haven't looked into using them. Thanks...you probably just saved me the price of a set of dies. I have an ancient Lee universal decapping die so that's not a problem. Could be all I need is the brass. I checked my .366 mold and it is 196 gr. so that's taken care of if it is indeed the size needed. As the rifle isn't Nitro proofed first efforts will be with your favorite propellant...good ol' black powder....lol! Simply based on past experience I suspect the final load could well be a lightly duplexed BP load. Whatever it takes to get it to shoot to the sights.

Speaking of sights, in the picture of the rear sight, #13, that has to be an elevation adjustment device/screw of some kind. Have you ever seen that? Axel, Raimey have either of you?

I don't think it to be adjusted to minute of arc but the rear tang ocular provides a longer sight radius & that small pinhole forces your eye to the sights like an exit pupil of sorts.

Kind Regards,

Raimey
