Prices for Winchester Model 24s are starting to approach prices for real SxSs in this area. Can anyone explain the allure of two Model 37's stuck together? And calling a 24 two 37s is probably doing a disservice to the 37s. Or is this just West Virginia, which could be a valid explanation?

Life's too short to shoot an ugly gun.

Looked over 20ga not long ago. Not a bad little gun with only weakness being extractor piece. The price was reasonable $800 (they usually listed at >$1000). I didn't buy it only because I have no use for another shotgun. You must remember with exception of short lived Ruger Gold Label this is the only round action American mass produced sxs game gun.

Asking prices are differen't than selling prices. Just look at the "for sale" section, right here.
The 24s have their fans. So do AMC "Pacer" automobiles. Some of the people who own Pacers probably have model 24s, they come from the same school of design, I think.

Best,
Ted

The 12ga or 16ga isn't worth a bother but 20ga is pretty decent sxs shotgun. My friend had one and when it slipped off side of car and fell on big rock the barrel was not dented! Winchester proof steel, baby. whistle

I had a 16ga Model 24 with 2 sets of barrels. Actually, an extra set from another gun that got parted out somewhere along the line. Old Don Zutz kinda liked them. Said they had better stock dimensions than most American classic doubles. And I recall an article, I think in Shooting Sportsman, in which Vic Venters wrote that Doug Turnbull carries a 24 when he's really serious about hunting.

A minister friend in Vermont has a 16 gauge model 24. When he stops by grouse camp for a visit and a sip in the evening I let him put his 24 in the rack with our Parkers in the hope that the Winchester will get a little Religion. So far it hasn't been effective... the darn thing still doesn't shoot straight, the Reverend claims.
Sometimes I just don't get it... What's the attraction of a 24?
.....and the preacher's name's Parker too!

"Minister's gun needs religion?" Great phrase, with my praise.
