The seller has kindly sent a pic of the action flats. The stamps do corroborate the barrel proof marks. There is no "Quality E" stamp on the action flats either, indicating this is not a lessor quality gun built by someone else for Purdey with Purdey putting their name on it, but rather this was/is the real McCoy.



Still awaiting Purdey's response in an effort to see what information they can provide and whether they're original Purdey barrels or someone else's.

No serial number on the action! Now that is a little unusual for a Brit made gun.

Appears to be consistent with the way Purdey did things back then, the serial number is on the trigger guard extension--check Dallas' book for verification. While having the book in hand, check out Plate 26 in the color section, you'll see a pair of Purdey B-I-W hammerguns with a similar rib to breech face abutment as the subject gun.

Regarding serial number on actions - William Powell & Son didn't put serial numbers on their actions until the mid to late 1890s.

$7500 I might look longer like eight bore said barrel thickness? What else is available. I looked in Purdeys book and they had a pair of bar wood actions that had a big drop from the breech to the barrel. The rib engraving does not look correct to me but I am not a Purdey expert by any means.

It is getting harder to find a Purdey in that price even sleeved.

Just to close the loop . . . Purdey has responded that they do not believe the barrels now on the gun are original Purdey barrels, nor have they records of having been involved with their replacement. I've decided to pass on purchasing it for these reasons. Incidently, the gun is priced at $2,799.99. I don't know the wall thicknesses and the seller doesn't have a gauge, but does offer an inspection period.
